Life at Barty House

At our home, your daily life is guided entirely by your personal choices, ensuring no two days are the same. Although a basic structure is in place to guarantee everyone receives the care they require, you have full control over how you spend your time, from when you wake up to where and what you eat. At Barty House we are here to support your independence and help you live exactly how you wish, respecting your individuality every step of the way.

Our Rooms & Suites

Your room comes furnished with an adjustable bed, lockable bedside cabinet, wardrobe, chest of drawers or dressing table, armchair, and TV, with free Wi-Fi and wheelchair access throughout the home. You are encouraged to personalise your room by bringing toiletries, named clothes, and other possessions. Adding favourite pictures, photos, ornaments, plants, and even a bird feeder for your window can make your new room feel familiar and help staff get to know you better, making it easier to settle in and make friends. Our Home Manager is always available to answer any questions you may have about personal belongings and to provide any support you need.

Dining

At Barty House, the dining experience is central to daily life, with the head chef and catering team preparing a variety of delicious, nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, accommodating all dietary needs including allergies, intolerances, and puréed diets. Residents can choose from the daily menu or request something different, and snacks such as fresh fruit and homemade cakes are always available, including puréed options for those who need them. Unlimited hot and cold drinks, juices, and smoothies are offered at any time. Mealtimes are sociable occasions, usually enjoyed in spacious dining rooms, but meals can also be served in residents’ rooms if preferred. The team encourages everyone to personalise their dining experience, and special attention is given to nutrition and hydration, especially for those living with dementia. Dining is not only about good food but also about socialising, making new friends, and enjoying a welcoming, homely atmosphere.

Arts & Crafts

Even if you haven’t picked up a paintbrush since childhood, getting involved in arts and crafts is an excellent way to explore your creativity and have fun. These sessions are designed for everyone, regardless of experience or skill, and can be a wonderful opportunity to try new techniques, experiment with colours, and create something unique to display or share with loved ones. Taking part in creative activities can also be very relaxing and rewarding, helping to boost confidence and bring a sense of achievement.

We also encourage our residents to join our reminiscing sessions, which use memory-prompting props and are very popular. These sessions invite residents to share stories from their past, recall special moments, and connect with familiar objects or photographs. Sharing memories is not only enjoyable but also a fantastic way to get to know your fellow residents, build friendships, and strengthen the sense of community within the home.

Entertainment

At Barty House Care Home, residents enjoy a vibrant and varied entertainment programme tailored to suit a wide range of interests. Baking, along with cake and biscuit decorating sessions, offers a fun and engaging way to get creative in the kitchen. Some of the other common activities we offer here include animal therapy, with visits from friendly dogs, ponies, and other animals bringing comfort and joy. Music plays a central role in daily life, featuring live performances from visiting singers, group sing-alongs, karaoke, and instrumental jams that often inspire residents to dance and participate. Outings are also a popular highlight, including group meals, trips to local shops and attractions, and personalised one-to-one excursions, ensuring residents have plenty of opportunities to enjoy their favourite activities both indoors and out.

Landscaped Gardens

Glorious grounds surround the house, from traditional and quintessentially English gardens at the front to the picturesque and private courtyard garden and decking area at the centre of the new building. The beautifully maintained gardens provide a serene and inviting atmosphere, perfect for leisurely strolls or quiet reflection. The wheelchair-accessible courtyard offers a relaxed and safe environment with plenty of seating space for everyone to enjoy a pot of tea and cake on a warm day, or just sit and soak up the sunshine in a peaceful setting. Residents often gather here to socialise, enjoy the fresh air, or simply appreciate the natural beauty around them. The gardens are thoughtfully designed to be accessible and welcoming to all, encouraging outdoor activity and connection with nature throughout the year.

Hair Salon & Pamper Room

Barty House features a popular on-site hair salon that offers regular pampering sessions for residents, providing a convenient and comfortable way to enjoy professional hairdressing services without the need to leave the home. The salon is staffed by experienced hairdressers who deliver personalised care, catering to individual styles and preferences, whether it’s a simple trim, styling, or more specialised treatments. Beyond enhancing residents’ appearance, these sessions play an important role in promoting wellbeing and boosting confidence. The salon also serves as a welcoming social space where residents can relax, chat, and connect with others, making it a valued part of daily life at Barty House.

For mental stimulation, residents can take part in arts and crafts, crosswords, jigsaws, Sudoku, bingo, cards, and board games, all of which encourage creativity and social interaction.
