If you are reading this you are either considering a career in care or are already well established in the industry and keen to take the next step in your professional journey. Perhaps you are a carer or nurse with some experience, in which case you will already be familiar with the many good reasons for working in care. You will know, for example, that it is incredibly rewarding with a high level of job satisfaction – every day gives you an opportunity to make a difference to someone’s life while building a unique relationship with them. You will also be acquiring some very valuable knowledge, skills and experience along the way.

To join our company as a carer you don’t have to have previous experience but what you really do need is a passionate desire to help others. We have a number of different caring roles across our home, as well as within our housekeeping, facilities, activities and administration teams, which are all vital in their own way to the smooth running of our homes. Whatever you’re looking for, we can help you to find it.

About you

Maybe you are a school leaver with friends or relatives working in care and thought you’d like to give it a try. Perhaps you have been working in another industry altogether and are looking for something a little bit different or more fulfilling. Several of our staff, including at least one home manager, have previous backgrounds in sales, catering or banking and have brought the benefit of their experience to our home. Sometimes people join us in retirement in non-care roles because they want to ‘give something back’ to the community for a few hours a week.

Whatever your situation, if you have the magic ingredient – you want to help others and make a difference to their lives – then please do apply as a care assistant in one of our homes. The application process is simple and straightforward and, if you are successful, we offer full training, support and the opportunity to acquire further qualifications. You will also have access to a range of industry-leading benefits.

If you are an established care/senior care assistant or nurse/nurse – team leader, you are most welcome too. Please check out our vacancies to see if there is one to suit you

What does a career in care look like?

As well as offering a high degree of job satisfaction, caring for vulnerable people can also be demanding and challenging, especially if they have complex medical needs. Being a carer is an important, skilled and responsible role that does not suit everyone. While essential proficiencies and knowledge can be learned and practised, it’s the quality of their people skills that makes some care workers so exceptional. For example, it is essential to have patience and empathy for those you look after, as well as the ability to remain calm under pressure and a strong desire to provide best-quality personalised care and quality of life. If you do embark on a career at one of our homes, you will provide person-centred care and support to residents, helping them to live life to the full. You will get to know them and their families well, building up a knowledge of their likes and dislikes to ensure that our care is as tailored as possible to their individual requirements.

We will provide you with many opportunities to build on your skills and knowledge so that you can progress in your career, mentoring and managing junior colleagues, if you wish. You will meet and interact with a wide range of people – work colleagues, those you care for, their families and professional colleagues – and every day will be different. One moment you could be liaising with a health professional or writing up a care plan and the next you could be reminiscing with a resident over a cup of tea or providing peace of mind and reassurance to their family.

If you talk to any of our staff, read the testimonials or watch the videos on this site, you will get an idea as to why they all love their job so much and why joining the Canford Healthcare family could be a really good career move for you.
