With its echoes of gunpowder, treason and plot from long ago, bonfire night is always one of the annual highlights here at Barty House.

This year we were overwhelmed by the gift of enough fireworks to guarantee a truly impressive display, thanks to the generosity of HomePlus, a chain of Kent-based quality furniture shops which has recently opened new premises in Maidstone.

Barty House Administrator Debbie Parker is married to HomePlus delivery driver John, who put in a word with his boss. The family-oriented company lost no time in supplying us with a generous quantity of bangers, Catherine wheels, rockets and sparklers. Our residents enjoyed a traditional bonfire night supper while watching the spectacular son et lumière from the warmth and comfort of Barty House’s spacious conservatory.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to HomePlus for their generosity, and also to David and Richard, our two volunteers who braved the cold and put on a great show,” says home manager Gabriele Jerome.

“It is such a shame that we couldn’t invite relatives this year, but we are happy that we were able to give such enjoyment to our residents. Local businesses, such as HomePlus, have been incredibly good to Barty House during the restrictions and their generosity has made a massive difference to all our residents and staff at this difficult and strange time.”
