Residents and staff were delighted to welcome Helen Whately, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, for a visit to celebrate Care Home Open Week recently.

Previously the Minister of State for Social Care from 2021–21, Ms Whately was taken on a tour of the home and chatted with residents and staff about their experiences of the pandemic. She also spoke to the home’s wellbeing team about the importance of keeping up residents’ morale by organising meaningful and enjoyable activities, and supporting them to stay connected with their families.

During her visit to Barty, Ms Whately also met with members of the home’s local GP surgery team, learning how closely we work with our NHS partners.

“It was our great pleasure to welcome Ms Whately to Barty House Nursing Home,” says David Willis, our home manager.

“She told us that she found the home very welcoming and full of life. She also said that she is keen to come back to support any special events that we may have in the future. We would like to thank our GP surgery colleagues for coming to the home to meet Ms Whately and also for all their ongoing help and support, day in, day out, which is much appreciated by us all.”
