The recent trip out for Barty residents to Kent life stirred up lots of fond memories of the hops from days gone by. The hop huts are a true representation of how life was for the hop pickers, and seeing the hops growing on site brings it all to life.
Allan who was said to have had the most marvellous morning out said it was “like going home!” His late wife used to look after the Hop Pickers and would organise them, so he was very familiar with the process and loved looking around the huts that are like little time capsules for visitors. Valerie too was elated with the trip, she and her husband had a farm and kept cows and also grew their own hops. So she too took a trip down Memory Lane. Valerie is very excited at the prospect of being able to go back again another day and see some more.
Next planned trip is Bowling at Hollywood Bowl, a different kind of experience and no doubt just as rewarding for Barty residents and staff to enjoy some quality fun time together. Don’t forget if you are able to spare any free time to accompany the Oomph trips out, just look at the Oomph notice board in reception to see all the forthcoming dates and locations.
