For six weeks this summer, between May and the end of June, here at Barty House we have been holding a raffle to raise money for the Heart of Kent Hospice (HOKH). It has been a real success, and we are proud to announce that the grand total of £571.84 has been raised for a charity that does so much vital work here in the community.
We would like to thank businesses and individuals in the Maidstone area, and beyond, who were kind enough to donate some fabulous raffle prizes – from clothes and flowers to pizza and jewellery and haircuts – and contribute towards our fundraising effort. In total, there were over 50 prizes to be won, and every raffle ticket sold added to the final total. We are also proud to say that all our residents and staff did their very best to contribute, from making a donation to selling raffle tickets. The raffle was drawn at the end of June, and many of our residents and staff were delighted to have won a prize, from gin to massage coupons!
Barty’s home manager, David Willis, said: “We’re so proud of what’s been achieved this summer and touched by the generosity of our residents, staff and the community. But, as great as that all is, the real winners will be those receiving care as a result of the invaluable work done by the Heart of Kent Hospice.”
Karen Newton-Anker, a Community Partnerships Fundraiser at HOKH, said that the money will go towards “providing nine families with 1hr 30min sessions with the Hospice team to help with benefits, paperwork and practical support following a terminal diagnosis”. She added: “This year, HOKH is celebrating 30 years of providing outstanding care to the local community and we hope that this continues for another 30 years!”
As every donation helps to keep charities such as HOKH running, we at Barty are more than happy to help!
We would like to say a special thank you to the following individuals and businesses for their generous prizes: Maidstone Tyres & Exhausts, Dominos Maidstone, Mr Flower, Greggs, Pamp It Up Beauty, Zoey Crystal Photography, Maidstone Sports Massage, Stable Oak Holiday Cottages, Marcel Payne, Rock Paper Scissors Maidstone, Marvellous Parties, our hairdresser Emily and our carer Stephen who made a lovely cake.
